The line treats habits as downstream from repeated attention and intention, not as isolated acts.
As a Man Thinketh, in the discussion of thought, health, and habit.
“Never leave that till tomorrow, which you can do to-day.”
The maxim turns prompt action into a habit: work that can reasonably be completed now should not be needlessly transferred to an uncertain tomorrow.
The Way to Wealth; a Poor Richard maxim on delay and useful employment of time.
“Men are anxious to improve their circumstances, but are unwilling to improve themselves.”
Changing conditions without changing the habits that produce them may leave the underlying problem intact.
As a Man Thinketh, “Effect of Thought on Circumstances.”
“If you would make anything a habit, do it.”

Discourses of Epictetus, Book II, Chapter XVIII, “How we should struggle against appearances,” George Long translation; 1877 George Bell & Sons witness on Wikisource, cross-checked against Project Gutenberg #10661. This short catalog record is an excerpt of Long’s longer clause “Generally then if you would make any thing a habit, do it”; this collection lightly normalizes “any thing” to “anything.”
“Employ thy time well, if thou meanest to gain leisure.”
Leisure is easier to protect when working time is used deliberately, linking time management with freedom rather than treating organization as an end in itself.
Poor Richard’s Almanack; the maxim connects disciplined use of working time with the ability to gain leisure.
“The more you draw, the better. Draw everything you can.”
Repeated drawing is treated as the route to improvement, making practice and quantity of attempts part of developing a useful skill.
The Lost Prince; Project Gutenberg #384. Loristan encourages Marco to strengthen a sketching ability useful to the story’s secret mission.
“Still achieving, still pursuing, learn to labour and to wait.”
Progress is pictured as a combination of effort and patience rather than nonstop urgency.
A Psalm of Life, final line.
